Question of the Weak - Time Travel

Well, hello there... I'm back with a Question of the Weak for you!! You can leave your answers in the comment section or use the question to spark your own blog post. Or you can be a big dork and not play along and we will all stare at you with looks of disappointment and hatred and slowly but swiftly shun you from the blog world. Your choice.

So, here is our question...(drum roll..) IF YOU COULD TIME TRAVEL AND VISIT ANY TIME PERIOD, WHERE WOULD YOU GO AND WHY?

This is a super easy question for me. Regency England. Just think, me, in a Jane Austen novel. I think of myself as quite a classy lady. I think I'd fit in quite well actually. (did you just laugh?) Can you picture it? Long flowing gowns, men in cute hats riding over hills on horseback, servants serving me tea while I do my embroidery. There would be balls and dances, music lessons, carriage rides to visit grand estates where handsomely grumpy bachelors would live with their beloved but shamed sisters. Best of all, Colin Firth swimming in a lake that I would stumble upon quite by accident while out strolling. Oh Mr. Darcy, you're all wet!! How improper! *this is the part where I would blush furiously, and try to hurry away.. but he would grab my arm and say , "wait! I've loved you! I've always loved you!"

Ok, hang on. I'm not really being true to the question here, am I? I said TIME PERIOD not fictional setting, (although really, Darcy? Could you be more delicious?).

Ok here we go, take two. Me. Regency England. Long flowing dresses, check. Corsets? hmmm. Long carriage rides through the country? That sounds good. Servants serving me tea while I embroider? I like the servants part, but I'll take a Iced Mocha instead of tea and though I do enjoy needlework... I think I'd get bored quickly. Maybe some trashy novels to read? I'm relatively sure they didn't have Gossip Girl back then. I'm not too talented when it comes to music, so maybe I could take dance lessons instead? Come to think of it, I'm not too great at that either. Karate then. I'll be the only girl in the village who can whoop some real ass. And you know, I don't think I'd be able to say "ass." Or kiss a boy before being engaged to be married (and even then, scandalous!) and well, I'm of the "try it before you buy it" persuasion, so that won't do. And didn't those pretty horses that pull the gorgeous carriages crap all over the streets? Then I'd have to walk through those streets in my gorgeous gown to get to my karate lessons? Hmmm.. I'm having second thoughts here. And now that I'm curious about it.. how often did they bathe back then? And chamber pots? EWWWWWW...

All right, the Regency time period.. not for me. I love the thought of it. The romance of it all, but was it really that romantic to live it? Probably not. Maybe I should set my time machine for a more recent time period? How about the 60's? Sex? Drugs? Rock and Roll? Yeah, that sounds about right. Now.. if I could just take Mr. Darcy with me. I think he'd look great in tie-dye, don't you?

Question of the Weak.. bad habits...

Question of the Weak
Here goes:
What are your worst habits?

Unfortunately, I have tons. I am a plethora of annoying qualities. I know, it's hard to believe. Me? Annoying? Shocker, I know.

One habit that I find myself doing a lot is worrying. I know, I know... we all do it. But believe me, you don't do it like I do. I obsess. I obsess about obsessing. I worry myself sick, over really trivial crap. Add to that the anxiety over the big things in life, like losing love ones, and it all sums up to one big ball of nerves.

I also tend to put myself last. So, how can that be bad? I put everyone before me. Everyone else's feeling are more important than my own. And then I get upset because no one thought of me! Here's an example: I save and save for Craig and Ros's birthdays and make sure they get great gifts. But do I put aside money for me? EVER? Nope. And do I get mad that no one gets me anything?? YUP! And do you know why they don't get me anything? Because when they ask me what I want, I say "Nothing. I'm good". Yep, I am a complicated creature.

I am a chronic quitter. I start lots of projects and yet, I rarely finish any.

I eat when I'm stressed. Or bored. Or breathing.

I cannot sit through a movie at home. Unless I have something else going on too.. sewing or working, etc. I get antsy. It drives Craig nuts that I can't sit and cuddle and watch.

I snore. I think. I wake myself up and think the dogs are barking... but it's me, snorting like a pig.

I've got tons more. But I want to hear about yours. What are you worst habits? Leave your answers in the comments section or leave a link to your blog and we'll follow ya over there!

Question of the Weak ... Pet Peeves..

What are your top five pet peeves? What drives you absolutely nuts? Leave a comment and let us know, or take the idea over to your own blog and run with it!

Here are mine:

1. People who pick their nose in the car while driving. Why do people think this is OK? You do not turn invisible when you roll up those windows. We can see through them. They are glass, nimrod. And no, you are not going fast enough that we don't see you digging for gold up your left nostril.

2. When I lose something and someone says, "Where did you last have it?" Um, well let's see, dumb-ass, if I knew that I would know where said item is. That's just the same as saying "Where is it?". Um, I DON'T KNOW! HENCE, THE FRUSTRATED SCREAMING AND THROWING OF OBJECTS. You are not helping. Please leave.

3. People who are on their cell phones constantly. It drives me nuts when I see people out taking a walk with their phones to their ears. What ever happened to a nice contemplative walk to clear your head and think? I want to smack it out of their hands and scream "Look at the damn birds, would ya? Wave hi to a neighbor for Christ's sake!"

4. People who still wear the "80's bang". You know the one... otherwise known as "the pouf" or the "rats nest" or the "what the hell is that on your forehead? a dead raccoon?"

5. Sandals and socks. 'nuff said.

I have tons more.. it's a shame really, how many things drive me crazy. Maybe it's me? Eh, nah.

Question of the Week...fictional characters!

This week's question deals with fictional characters. What fictional character mostly resembles your and your personality? It can be a cartoon, a book character, a movie character...etc. You can leave your answer in the comments section, or post on your own blog and link up here!

I would love to be able to say that I am headstrong and independent like Elizabeth Bennet in Pride and Prejudice. But I'm not. I wish I could say that I am brave and fearless like Lara Croft. But I'm not. I really wish I could say that I am cool and stylish like any of the girls on Sex and The City. But I'm not. Not even close. So I thought about it some and I came up with someone who very much resembles me and my life. Her name is Kaitlin.

To those of you who know me... (especially you, Hubs.) the similarities are obvious. Kaitlin is easily excitable. She talks too much. Her sense of style is a little bit off. She has huge ideas that never quite pan out. And most of all.. she talks a big talk. She acts brave and fearless... when really she is whispering in Rick's ear that she's scared. Craig is my Rick. I love you, Rick.

ps.I HAVE NOT IDEA WHY THOSE VIDEOS ARE SO GINORMOUS.

The Patron Saint of Irritated Husbands...

Photobucket

My husband and I will be celebrating our ten year wedding anniversary next month. I am the first to admit that I am difficult to live with. I am shocked that he has put up with me for that long. The following are just a few examples of his miraculous patience.

** We had not been dating too long when my parents invited him over for dinner. My brother and I decided to class up the dinner with a fart machine under my chair. We waited until a silent moment and then... rip. My brother and I were laughing so hard he choked on his chicken parm and had to leave the table to puke in the bathroom. Of course, he continued to hit the fart remote while I sat and snorted like an idiot. Hubby just kind of giggled a little and turned beet red.

** The other week we were sitting in a parking lot trying to find directions to a new restaurant. I spot two birds out my window.
ME: Do birds have sex?
HIM: Yes (still typing on the GPS)
ME: I've never seen them do it.
HIM: (he sighs..) Well, the do. Maybe they're just private about it.
ME: Well, then where are their little wieners?
HIM: (slamming shut the GPS) Kel, they have wieners and they have sex... OK??
ME: Geez... well, excuse me, Mr. Know-it-all.

** We were feeding the geese at the park with our daughter. One goose dips her neck in the green water and guzzles some down.
ME: ewww! They actually drink that water?
HIM: (rolls his eyes.) No, they don't. They have bottled water shipped in (walks away, shaking his head.)

** I have this thing where if someone tells me NOT to do something, I have to do it. I don't know why. I've always been that way. One winter morning, when we were living in our first apartment, Craig went out to warm up his car. We had had an ice storm the night before. He came back in to get something to scrape the ice off his car. I offered to help. He told me not to go out there. The parking lot was covered in ice. That's where he made his mistake. A few minutes later he goes back out. I follow him, with my trusty spatula, ready to show him how it's done. I get to the front step and he says. "Kel! I said don't come out here! It's too dangerous!"

I get very snotty with him. "Don't you tell me what to do!" , and I step off the bottom step. "I wanna heeeeeeeellllllpp". And then I fall. I slide across the entire parking lot, on my ass. I make eye contact with him as I glide past. He just sighs. I finally come to a rest at the other end of the lot. I try to get up. Because I was stupid enough to put on slippers before I went out, I now find it impossible to stand up. And I have to wait there, in my nightgown, halfway across the apartment complex, for him to come help me get up. After five minutes of my whining, he comes over. He doesn't say a word, just shakes his head.

** A few years ago we were watching the Olympics on TV. I say to him. "I bet I can still do a handstand."
He looks over at me. "No. Please, don't."
Now he did it.
"Don't tell me what to do." I go to the middle of the room and do the coolest and most awesome handstand that has ever been done in the history of handstands. He doesn't say anything. "You didn't even look!" I yell at him.

"Yes, I did. It was cool. You're lucky you didn't hurt yourself. Now, could you move?" He looks past me to the TV.

Oh, no he didn't. I put my hands on my hips. "No! You didn't look! Watch!!" And this time I do another super-cool, spectacular handstand.. except this time, I fall over backwards and break my toe. To this day, I look at my crooked second toe and blame him.

** When I was pregnant I told him I was dead set against getting an epidural.
HIM: Why don't you want an epidural? It's gonna hurt, Kel."
ME: I'm not gettin' one. I don't want my legs all numb.
HIM: What? Why not?
Me: Because! What if I need my legs?
HIM: For what?
ME: I don't know!! What if I something happens and I need to run out of there or something??
HIM: (sighs and shakes his head, again.) Kel, where do you think you are going to need to go so badly when there is a baby hanging out of you?
ME: I don't know... but I sure won't be able to get there with jelly legs, will I?
HIM: Point taken.

So, there you have it. Just a few reasons that my husband should be appointed to sainthood. The fact that he hasn't killed me yet is unbelievable.

**I swear, I am not stupid, I just have no filter. I say what I am thinking, and usually it makes no sense.

QOTW If you could change the past.....

This week's" question of the week" is:

IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE EVENT IN YOUR PAST, WHAT WOULD IT BE AND WHY?

Of course, there are a lot of small events in my life that have shaped me. Some good, some bad. But most of them, I would not change. Each moment changed my life in some way and got me to where I am today. However, there is one 3 minute event in my life that I would love to wipe clear of my memory forever. I don't feel that it changed me in any way that is good or beneficial. It hurt me more than I would like to admit.

The date was September 10, 1998. I was 21 years old. I was working as a bank teller. I loved my job. I was awesome at it. My girlfriend, another teller, and I were talking and laughing, singing with the radio. It was a quiet Thursday morning at the bank. Suddenly, two men burst through the door. It took me a second to even realize why they had ski masks. But once one jumped my counter and pointed his gun at me it was very clear.

"Where's the fuckin' money?" he screamed in my face. I couldn't stop staring up at the gun pointed at my forehead. His finger was on the trigger. He had it tipped sideways, I could see his finger on the other side.

I dumbly pointed to the drawer. He told me and the other teller to put our heads against the cabinets, while he emptied the tills. The other guy was robbing the customer service rep and the man she had been waiting on. There was alot of screaming going on. My friend and I just sat their, shaking in fear. I was terrified he would ask to get into the vault, because I was the head teller and had the key. I sat there, hunched over, and tried not to pass out. Suddenly, the guy in the service area saw that the alarm light was blinking.

"One of those bitches hit the alarm!" He sounded panicked. The man standing behind us starting waving the gun against the backs of our heads, pacing and cursing. I caught the eye of my friend. Her eyes were wide in fear.

"Did you hit that alarm, bitch?" he asked her. She just shook her head. She hadn't, either. He most likely tripped the alarm when he was grabbing the money. He turned towards me. Luckily, at that moment, the third guy who had been sitting in the car, stuck his head through the door and screamed "Let's go! Now." And then they were gone. The whole incident was 3 and a half minutes long. It seemed like hours.

I haven't been the same since. I have had panic attacks since I was child, mostly due to medical issues.(I have a blood phobia...) but I was never scared of things. I did not shy away from situations. Now, I am scared of everything. I get nervous in stores. I hate crowds. I have nightmares. The night terrors stared probably a month after the robbery. I would wake up with violent shaking and wouldn't be able to stop. I worry obsessively now, about everything and everyone. If this could happen to me, it could happen to anyone. And if it happened to me once, it could happen to me again. And next time it might be worse.

I guess the worst part of it all, was the fact that my world was rocked. I come from a small town. Things like that don't happen there. I had never experienced anything like that. Things like that happen on tv, or in big cities. And they certainly don't happen to me. I see the world a lot differently now, and the view isn't all that great.

So, I guess if I had to choose one moment, that would be the one. I can't see that anything good came out of it, only fear and pain. Sure, maybe it caused me to see the world as it really is, but I would really prefer to have my rose colored glasses back.

Question/Topic of the Week

Hey everyone! My slacker self is back with the question of the week. Feel free to take it to your blog and run wild.. or just answer it here! Just trying to inspire some bloggy creativity. So, on to this weeks topic..

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST CAR? What did it look like? Did you buy it? or your parents? Where you embarrassed or proud? How long did you have it? Where did you go in it?

I have to begin by telling you that I have never really cared about cars. Which is weird because I come from a line of car enthusiasts. I could truly care less what I am driving, as long as it gets me where I am going. The car I am driving now is proof of that. It's called the "silver bullet" and that's all I have to say about that.

I bought my first car at age 17. I did not save up for it. Although I had been working since I was 13, with babysitting and Burger King, I had no money set aside for it. My parents had a rule that they would not buy our first cars. (They were very "earn your own way" and all that.) So, because I was not really interested in cars, nor did I have any money.. I took my paycheck from Burger King on the day I turned 17 and went car shopping. The selection of cars available for 149.76 was incredibly slim as you can imagine, and this is what I ended up with:

(not my actual car.. I did not take picures... but this is it's twin, amazingly found online!)

Yes, that's right people. This fine piece of automotive machinery was all mine. A 1978 AMC Concord. It was a lovely shade of faded green, accessorized with sassy spots of orange rust and silver scratches. The interior was too die for, and with that I mean, it smelled like someone died in there. And although I had never been a car enthusiast, I remember getting behind that gigantic steering wheel and inhaling that sweetly decaying body scent and thinking..."Shit. I probably should have saved two paychecks."

However, I do look back fondly on "the Tank". It took me places and that's all I wanted. Sure, I arrived in a rattling, smoking beast that stalled spontaneously and backfired at inopportune moments, but I got where I was going. Which at the time, was my boyfriends house. He was glad just to not have to drive. He even taught me how to do burnouts.. and I mean, really.. isn't that just the most romantic thing you have ever heard?

There really is no freedom like your first car. I remember long drives, singing my heart out to Juliana Hatfield in my Doc Martens and babydoll dresses and just reveling in being alone and being able to go wherever my heart desired. Well, at least until I ran out of gas, cause the gas gauge was broke.

Eventually though.. it was time to move on. The tank had his run and it was good one. But he was a tired, old soul and was eventually put out of his misery. (I forgot to put oil in him and his engine blew up.) But this time, I was prepared. This time I saved two paychecks. Meet the oil guzzling, pollution cloud inducing creature know as "The Mosquito Sprayer".

It lasted about a month, before I ran it straight into the ground and my parents gave in and bought me a car. I think Dad was sick of picking his daughter up on the side of the road next to a smoldering car.

So, I say thank you to you, The Tank and The Mosquito Sprayer for all your hard work and dedication to getting my sweet little teenage self away from my parents( who I am sure were so glad to get my whining butt out of their cars). May you rust in peace forever in your junkyard graves.

Question of the week....a day late.

I'm late this week.. sorry.

Question of the week:

Do you have any recurring dreams? If so, what are they? How often do you have them?

I have a version of the same dream every night.. somewhat. I have the usual "high school" dreams. I am in high school and I can't remember my locker combo. I can't find my class. But usually, my dream goes like this: I am in school for the whole year. For the entire year, I have skipped my English class. Now, it's time to graduate and and I realize I can't. Then as I am crying and freaking out.. I think to myself. 'what the hell... I already went to high school and graduated. why am I even here?" I know. It makes no sense. It's always English class. I always realize too late that I wasted the entire year going to high school when I am already graduated. What the hell? I wonder if I have this dream because I go back and forth about going back to college......

anyway... what's yours?

Question of the week..

Alright, here is your question of the week! Feel free to take it and run over to your own blog and use it as inspiration for a longer post. Of course, I love your comments, so you can also just answer there!

We've got snow today, alot of it. I am so glad. We've had little piddly snowfalls so far this year. We finally got hammered with some real stuff! (perverts.. don't even try it..I know what your're gonna say.) So, my question this is... HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERFECT SNOW DAY?

There are a few things that need to be in order for me to truly enjoy a snow day. First of all, it has to be a significant snowfall. None of that slushy, sleety crap. I need inches! (again, pervs, we are talking about snow.) It has to be enough that we can stay home from work/school without feeling guilty. Also, the house must be fully stocked. Now, I am not one of those people who freak out over snow and run to the store for bread and milk. I do, however, freak out and run to the store for ice cream, doritos and tastykakes.. you know, the essentials. Copious amounts of coffee must also be at the ready. Now, on to entertainment. Sure, we got out and play in the snow for a while, but the big entertainment is saved for inside the house. Naps. Glorious, amazing, and beautiful naps. Wrapped up on the couch in my best "lounge wear", dozing and snoring for a good hour or so. Upon waking, snacks are neccesary and then it's on to the movies. Old movies, new movies, funny or sad movies. It doesn't matter. But there must be a good selection. (thank God for On Demand and Tivo.) And lastly, for maximum snow day enjoyment, the internet. Now it's time to discover all that youtube gold that I've been missing! Who knew there were over 500 videos of farting contests? And hundreds of videos of babies and puppies falling asleep? You bet! In fact, I just watched a few and they are making me sleepy.. maybe it's time for Nap #1.

If you've got a snow today, try and enjoy it. And if you don't, well, have fun working! mwwwhaaaahaa!

Question of the Week...

So, here's your question of the week, hopefully sparking some blog creativity. You can post your answers here in my comments section or take the question on over to your blog and do it there! Just trying to spread some inspiration!

If you could read the mind of one other person for one day, who would it be and why? It could be a movie star, a family member, friend or even your pet.

I guess I would choose my husband. I know that sounds weird.. but I just want to hear what goes on in that mind of his. I want to see his day through his eyes. I want to see just how amazingly annoying I can be sometimes. Craig is a quiet guy. Getting him to talk about serious things is like pulling teeth. He tends to sit and brood, unlike me, who likes to talk a subject to death. Sometimes it drives me insane trying to figure out what the hell he is thinking. I can ask him twenty times what is wrong and he says "nothing." But hours later, after begging and pleading, he will tell me. I would love to just hear what's going on in that cute head. I can see sometimes that there is something on the tip of his tongue, but he bites it back. The man is a mystery to me sometimes. He is shy around some people and doesn't say much. When he does speak, he usually has something hilarious and totally random to say, which I love. I would love to hear the sillier things going on in there that he doesn't say. Most of all, I want to know what he thinks of me. Of us. He doesn't say much. But I know he loves me. Sometimes though, I would like to know how much and why. I'm not always lovable. Hmm.. maybe reading his mind wouldn't be that great of an idea?

Question of the Week... (a new Monday regular!)

I am going to be posting a weekly question to get us all going on Monday mornings.. This one is slightly late.. cause I've been working on my page. But here goes:

IF YOU COULD RELIVE ANY PART OF YOUR LIFE, WHAT WOULD IT BE AND WHY?

For me, it's an easy one. I would relive my whole pregnancy with Roslyn and those first few years of her life. I was so sick and miserable when I was pregnant.. I feel like I got cheated. I never got to experience that "glow"... I was too busy puking my brains out. And as for the baby years.. well, they were just a blur. I have trouble even remembering them now. How sad it that? I was going to school and working (mostly at home) and I feel like I missed it all. I mean, I was there, but I wasn't. Does that even make sense? I feel like I wasn't "present" enough. I was paying enough attention. I didn't take enough video or pictures. I didn't record it all. I'm sure all moms feel that way. I remember being so tired, I could barely stand. But I would do it again in a second!

I would definitly like to go back to that first year, because I had some major post-partum issues. Now, that I can recognize my depression and anxiety, I think it would make for a much more pleasant experience. I would have sought help sooner. I wouldn't have suffered like I did. That was a scary time in my life. But I think with a little knowledge it could have been much better.

So, that's the question. You can answer here or on your blog! Have fun and I hope it sparks some nice memories for ya.
